transitory birth

The church i go to has been in a place of upheaval. It's being called transition. After going thru a 36 hour labour I know that transition does not take this long! It simply can't. If the cervix doesn't dilate within a certain length of time, the baby will go into stress, defecate, inhale and die. It almost happened to my daughter. She was overdue to be born. The contractions were 5 minutes apart, for hour upon hour. The cervix simply wasn't doing what needed to be done. That is open up. So in a state of distress, her baby bowels let loose and she began to breathe the meconium. At this point her heartbeat began to drop. She would have been lost, except for the medical team moving quickly and proficiently. There was a tube going down my throat even as we went upstairs in the elevator. And the Lord used the doctors to save our lives. Afterward, my daughter was a mere 2 on the Apgar scale. That is not good. She put up a good fight--and she lived. Of course, I believe that God intervened, because He has a hope and a future for her. I also believe the doctors did what they were called to do. I am thankful. The Christian church has been overdue in coming out. We've been birthed some 2000 years ago. But, we need to be reborn. Like a Christian who is born-again. Unto the movement of the Holy Spirit. There we are, like my daughter, pushing, pushing, pushing- hour upon hour, in our own strength. We've gone into distress. Our lungs have taken in the meconium and our heartbeat has begun to drop. We look to the medical team and we cry out to God. IF you make the most High your dwelling--even the LORD who is my refuge--THEN no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:9-11 When i was in delivery with my daughter, i had to trust in the doctors--and i did. I had positioned myself in the best place i could be. If i had stayed at home, we both would have died. She was pushing hard, but she needed help. Yes! From the Lord. He used the team He had provided, and they did what they were trained for and called to do. We as a church have been pushing hard,and our time has come. So often we push in our own strength. We become distressed. We must position ourselves rightly. In the Lord's hands and next to His heart. He has a hope and a future for us. We also need to help each other. Thru Christ we have the training and the calling. Not for us alone, but for one another and for this world. We are pregnant, called to give birth to a small beautiful package of love. We are also doctors--or midwives--and we are called to the training Christ has given us. For a world to rejoice in His birth--and the movement of His Holy Spirit.
